KOZAって？

コザってどこだろうと思わない？分かりやすく言えばコザは、沖縄県がまだ米治時代に現在の沖縄市の旧称であった。

現在のコザは、エイサーの街と音楽の街とも呼ばれている。エイサーの稽古や島唄と三線の音が日常的な風景。沖縄本場の空手道場や庶民的な酒場に加え、県内最後１カ所の銭湯施設がまだ現役中。その一方、スタイリッシュな麦酒工房や手作りソーセージ工房、クラブとバー等のも続々登場してきた。

街の古き良き時代の流れ感と、今にも生まれ変わる街並みが、テンポよく補い合っている。それが、コザのことだと町家KOZAのオーナーはそう感じている。

There are many different versions on what “Koza” stands for. But nobody is 100% sure. One thing for sure though, Koza was the name of the now Okinawa city back in the 1970’s. At all times, Koza (コザ) City is the one and only city across Japan which has official Katagana. Nowadays, locals still commonly refer to this broad neighbourhood by its past name コザ. Koza City has long been a melting pot of American and Okinawan cultures. Every year, thousands of visitors flood into the city to partake in the Okinawan Eisa Festival. Ambiance during the night is a mix of old & new nostalgia. Each traveller probably has a unique image of Koza.
